Join us for an in-person, hands-on, 4-day SAS Fundamentals training to experience using the B21, DL-SAXS and I22 SAXS beamlines.

Overview

We are pleased to announce the Diamond Light Source Small Angle Scattering (SAS) Fundamentals Training is now open for applications!

The training will include:

  • The theory of Small Angle Scattering (SAS)
  • The use of in-house and external data reduction and analysis software
  • Hands-on experience using the B21, DL-SAXS and I22 SAXS beamlines here at Diamond.

During the training, attendees will have the opportunity to learn best practices for SAS sample preparation, data acquisition, processing and experience their first steps with scattering data analysis. 

This training is geared towards first year PhD students as well as other early days users of Small Angle X-ray Scattering (SAXS)

There are limited spaces to attend this event, therefore access is subject to an application process.

Applications will be open until 17:00(GMT) on Sunday 17th March 2024.

Applicants will be notified of the outcome on the week commencing Monday 25th March 2024.

Please note that places on this training course are limited. In the case of oversubscription, there will be a limit on the number of attendees for each research group.

Attendance, accommodation and transport

Attendance at this training is free of charge.

All lunches and refreshments (plus a dinner on Thursday 23rd April) wlil be provided as part of the registration to the event. 

Three nights of accommodation at a local hotel, The Bear Wantage (check in Tuesday 23rd April, Theck out Friday 26th April) as well as transfers between Diamond and the hotel, will also be provided, upon request and free of charge. 

All attendees are required to arrange and cover the cost of their transfer to and from Diamond Light Source.
