Data Analysis

New developments and collaborations, in particular with the European Synchrotron Radiation Source (ESRF) and the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), have led to the creation of a new software platform called DAWN.  The main components of the DAWN package are:

  • Visualisation of data in 1D, 2D and 3D
  • Phyton environment for data analysis, script development, debugging and execution.
  • Workflow for analysing scientific data calling Python and binary codes.

Much of the functionality in DAWN has been developed independently from the source of the data and consequently tools developed, for example peak, line or function fitting of 1D data, can be used for experiment interpretation of data ranging from beamline calibration, spectroscopy, through to detailed analysis of diffraction data.

These tools have been further grouped together into perspectives that either allow generic data analysis or bespoke experiment interpretation. Last year we reported how a number of these perspectives were being used in the SDA, the precursor of DAWN,  on a number of beamlines. The notable recent developments include: preparing for data analysis on the Angle-Resolved Photoemission Spectroscopy (ARPES) beamline (I05) and new perspectives for processing and visualisation of tomography data.
