The Astbury Biostructure Lab (University of Leeds) is partnering with eBIC (Diamond light source) Scottish Centre for Macromolecular Imaging (University of Glasgow), Midlands Regional Cryo-EM Facility (University of Leicester) and Birkbeck college (University of London) to host training courses between 2021-2026 in cryo-EM. This training program would not be possible without these partners, and is funded by Wellcome and MRC (218785/Z/19/Z).

Overview

This course is a part of our cryo-EM Wellcome/MRC training program tailored for PhD students and postdocs who wish to use cryo-ET for their research but have very little or no prior experience in cryo-ET.

The aim of the course is to give a theoretical knowledge and practical experience in the entire cryo-ET workflow including sample preparation, screening and data collection using our Titan Krios microscopes, and an introductory overview of the data processing.

Programme

28th November: 

  • Lectures covering an introduction to cryoET, sample preparation, FIBSEM, data collection and processing

29th and 30th November: 

  • Hands-on practicals in small groups: attendees will perform remote set up with instructor support.
  • Additional opportunity for observation and questions, to reinforce learning.

1st December:

  • Demonstrations and discussions covering sample preparation, clipping, and data processing
