Summer Projects and Work Placements
Diamond Light Source is a new scientific facility in South Oxfordshire on the Harwell Science and Innovation Campus. This giant machine, called a synchrotron, can be described as a series of "super microscopes". It is housed in a futuristic doughnut-shaped building which covers the area of 5 football pitches. Diamond will ultimately host up to 40 cutting edge research stations, called beamlines, supporting the life, physical and environmental sciences.
For University Students
Work placements are typically paid placements available to students undertaking a University degree course or its equivalent in the UK.
The duration of a Work Placement can vary between 3 to 12 months, but most take place over the summer vacation. Projects are matched to the degree course and qualification being studied. The student is typically employed on the basis of a Fixed Term Contract and receives similar benefits to an employee.
Projects may be available working with any of our beamlines. When applying, it is vital that you highlight your own research interests and experience, particularly if these include any knowledge or experience of synchrotron science.
Applicants are encouraged to explore the Diamond website to discover beamlines or any other areas of activity that match their interest and skills.
Applications are now open for our 2012 summer placements. Please submit an application (details below) by 9th March at the latest.
